Major Accomplishments in the SIDA Supported Research Training Partnership
So far, five cohorts of students have been enrolled in the program. The total number of students enrolled in the program so far is 34.
The table below indicates the academic status of the students in the five cohorts.

- 41 students’ travels and 7 staff travels were organized to University of Gothenburg from June, 2018-September, 2019.
- 28 ICE PhD students’ seminar presentations and examinations were undertaken from June 2018 –September 2019 in the University of Gothenburg.
- 2 AAU staff members have presented their research works in an open seminars organized in Gothenburg university.
- 7 staff from Gothenburg University visited Addis Ababa University in three rounds (2 in November, 2018; 3 in February, 2019; and 2 in May, 2019) and involved PhD students supervision, supervisors meetings, SIDA meetings.
- Small financial support was provided in monthly payment bases for the 3 female PhD students in program to contribute towards female students’ successful completion of their PhD study in the time specified in the curriculum and contribute to filling the national gaps in having female academics in higher education institutions.
- Modest financial support was provided for 1 PhD students in the program in monthly bases who has a disabled child who needs his close attention and who was not able to travel to Sweden to help him cover home nursing fee for his daughter and internet connectivity fee to facilitate resource access at Gothenburg University library and communication with supervisor at Gothenburg University.
- The Department of Education and Special Education in GU and SPCO in Addis Ababa University have made addition contribution in 2018/2019 for capacity development of the CCEPS and successful achievement of the outcomes specified in the partnership project. The following were the major contributions.
- Erasmus ICM+ funding for analysis of conditions for long-distance doctoral supervision. PI: Associate Professor Gun-Britt Wärvik. Participants: Dr Aimee Lee Haley and Dr. Alebachew Kemisso (Spring 2019).
- 15 percent of a full-time equivalent researcher from Department of Education and Special Education during 6 months (Aimee Lee Haley and Gun-Britt Wärvik) for analysis and publication (Spring and Autumn 2019) of research supported by Erasmus ICM+ funding.
- Library course for 16 doctoral students during the first visit to Sweden, and for three supervisors on how to use data base resources and referencing software.
- Seminar: “How to write an introduction” for 15 doctoral students during autumn2018 and spring 2019.
- Seminar on “How to write a good literature review” for 15 doctoral students during autumn 2018 and spring 2019.
- Access to library resources at GU during the whole project period covered by the OH-cost of GU.
- Seminar on “Institutional Theory” by eminent professor in the field for 11 students and 3 supervisors from CCEPS in spring 2019.
- Purchase of office furniture and equipment for CCEPS from SPCO.
